Binding

The Binding on these books are absolutely beautiful. Of course they are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I love how they perfectly match up artwork wise. I love when book bindings do have decorations on them. They make books seem old and important especially since people rarely buy books anymore with all the technology we have. Its good to still appreciate books (:

Branding

After project 3, I have noticed myself really paying attention to the fonts in name brands. Its funny because I've notices that some of the most expensive brands have the most simple fonts. But at the same time none of these companies were easy to just come up with a typographic identity. After going through project 3 I now know that. I am staring at this picture thinking of how cool it could be to know that you came up with the typographic identity for a big fashion company like Kate Spade. I love this picture. It is showing two different types of typography, the brand name itself and the font used on the necklace.

For my advertising class we needed to come up with an out of home ad for a company called San Francisco City Guides. It is a non profit that gives free walking tours around San Francisco. Here I used the subway napkin idea & tweaked it a little bit. When I was designing this it took me longer than I expected because I kept playing around with the typography and the kerning. I wanted everything to line up. I feel like if I didn't take this class than I wouldn't be able to change it to how I want it to look like. I am very happy with my final project of these napkin ads.

Powerful Typography

In time for Finals

Came across this picture on Pinterest. I thought that it was good especially because we have our final coming up. This way you can have a short one page study guide. Although before this class I didn't cafe about the "body parts" of font, but now that I know it I do really believe that it really helps with advertising. I do feel more confident in picking fonts for different themes. I remember in he beginning of the semester we all went around the class saying what we wanted to learn in this class. I admittedly was thinking in my head that this class was unnecesery and we shouldn't have to take it for our major. HOW I WAS WRONG. I am surprised with how much I feel like I have learned just about the importance of all the different fonts. I have been using the techniques I use in other classes as well. I said in the beginning of the semester that I want to learn how to show emotion through font and although I still can't say that I know how to do that 100%, I can do it to the best of my knowledge and feel more confident than I ever have before. I have also really enjoyed how we are so comfortable around each other as a class. We are able to have fun and still give each other helpful feedback.

Kindle Fire Ad

Here is the new Kindle Fire ad. When I was watching TV & first saw this I immediately thought of our Typography class because this was also right around the time we were presenting for project one, History of Typography. In this video I thought they did an excellent job generally showing how type has evolved throughout the years into the technology we have today like the Kindle Fire, which you can read on. Font has always had the sam purpose which is to have someone read whatever you are scribing.   Present day there are so many ways to just write and it's so easy to get large amounts of people to read what you want them to. It is highlighting how important just typography, words and our language is so important.

Walt Disney

I was trying to look for the Disneyland font typographic manual, but Matthias reminded me that it will probably not be on the internet and I'd most likely have to pay for it because Disney is the BEST COMPANY EVER! (: Anyway, I stumbled upon this video. I loved how every word that Walt Disney himself said was perfectly illustrated just in the font and the color that they used. Since we are working on project 3, I am thinking about the lable and the type of font they use. I love the Disneyland the font. It is so iconic, just like how I talked about in my first blog entry. I hope one day Disney font will be on my business card!
